This symposium will discuss proper terminology and social norms for treating patients who are members of the LGBTQ+ community. We will further discuss gender-affirming surgery and the colorectal surgeon's role in caring for transgender patients. We will review considerations for LGBTQ+ patient perioperative care and the role of the colorectal surgeon in caring for gay men.
