Rare pathologies of the colon, rectum, and anus can be difficult to recognize, diagnose, manage, and treat. Many surgeons may never encounter a case in training and then see each other only a handful of times throughout their careers. Because they occur so infrequently, there is often limited data or only low-quality evidence about the optimal management of each of these conditions. This symposium will highlight some of the most “common” of these rare entities and provide an overview of what is known about each disease process, as well as expert opinions regarding workup and management.
