Purpose/Background: Colonoscopy plays a key role in colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. It is effective in reducing morbidity and mortality from CRC, which continues to be diagnosed at advanced stages in Ukraine. The aim of this study is to investigate factors affecting screening colonoscopy in Ukraine.Methods/Interventions: A survey was created utilizing the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) and disseminated via email to members of EndoAcademy, one of the largest societies for endoscopists in Ukraine. A descriptive analysis was performed.Results/Outcomes: The survey was emailed to 540 endoscopists. There were 122 respondents (22.6%), including 31 women (25.4%). Most endoscopists work in public hospitals (59.8%), are contracted with National Health Services of Ukraine (NHSU) (68.6%), and perform 300-1000 colonoscopies per year (37.2%). When looking at performance measures (PM), cecal intubation rate was reported by 61.5% of endoscopists and adenoma detection rate was reported by 59.8%. Fewer endoscopists reported withdrawal time (38.5%), adequate bowel preparation rate (38.5%), polyp detection rate (30.3%), and complications (14%). Endoscopists reported the main barriers to screening colonoscopy as insufficient provision of equipment (67.2%), supply of consumables (60.7%), reimbursement to the center by NHSU (59.8%), reimbursement for endoscopists (57.4%) and training of specialists (41.0%).Proposed strategies for improving screening colonoscopy included additional colonoscopy training (76.2%), improved coordination between primary care physicians and endoscopists (71.3%), increasing reimbursement by the NHSU (66.4%), training of nurses to assist with colonoscopies (62.3%), and creation of patient pathway guidelines (60.7%).Conclusion/

Discussion: These survey results summarize barriers and proposed strategies for improving screening colonoscopy in Ukraine. Although most endoscopists cite insufficient provision of equipment and consumables as the main barriers to providing screening colonoscopy, the top strategies they cite for improvement of screening include more endoscopy training and coordination between specialists.
