Evaluation and treatment of patients with pelvic floor disorders can be complex. Treatment options and surgical approaches continue to evolve. A multidisciplinary approach to these patients can be helpful. This symposium will provide an overview of pelvic floor disorders, how they are diagnosed, the treatment modalities, and different surgical approaches. The presentations will center on an overview of major topics in pelvic floor dysfunction:
- Constipation and Rectal Prolapse: Resection versus Mesh
- Obstructive Defecation: When a pelvic floor physical therapist isn't available
- Fecal Incontinence: SNS versus sphincteroplasty
- Physiologic testing: When is it necessary?
Panel discussion at the end with case discussions.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Recognize which patients with fecal incontinence would benefit from sacral nerve stimulation and which patients would benefit from sphincter repair.
Identify which patients with rectal prolapse would benefit from ventral mesh rectopexy versus resection and rectopexy.
Explain how to manage obstructive defecation when there is no pelvic floor physical therapist available.
