Advocacy, outreach, and service are core to our mission as surgeons as we strive to provide the best care possible for our patients. For most of us, that sphere of influence is limited to our immediate clinical environments. For others, it extends beyond the borders of our institutions into surrounding communities or even countries. This symposium will help you identify creative ways to develop, expand, or be more effective in your advocacy and outreach efforts as a surgeon.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Explain the range of ways surgeons can make a difference in their communities.
Identify common barriers to being effective and strategies to mitigate them.
Recognize how medical mistrust affects advocacy and outreach efforts in different sectors.
