Jose G Guillem, MD, MPH, MBA is Professor of Surgery and Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery at UNC-Chapel Hill. His clinical interest include the multidisciplinary management of primary and recurrent rectal cancer as well as early-age-of-onset and hereditary forms of colorectal cancer such as Lynch Syndrome and polyposis syndromes. His research interest are broad but primarily focus on: 1. Understanding the natural history of hereditary forms of colorectal cancer and the surgeon's role in risk-reducing surgery and 2. assessment of rectal cancer response to preoperative combined modality therapy. His surgical approaches include open, laparoscopic, robotic and transanal endoscopic microsurgical techniques.
