Rebecca A. Levine, MD, FACS joined the Department of Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2011 as an assistant professor of surgery with dual board certifications in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery. She received her medical degree from the Icahn Mount Sinai School of Medicine, followed by a general surgery residency at North Shore-LIJ Hospitals and a colon & rectal surgery residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI. Her training comprised all aspects of the surgical specialty, including laparoscopy, endoscopy, complex anorectal diagnostics and therapeutic interventions, and operative pelvic surgery for both benign and malignant colorectal pathology. Over the past decade, Dr. Levine has increasingly focused on the prevention of anal cancer, gaining additional expertise in high resolution anoscopy techniques for the diagnosis and management of occult anorectal dysplasia. Her research interests primarily focus on the pathogenesis, therapy, and prevention of HPV-related diseases of the anal canal with special emphasis on high-risk patient populations. She has served as the Montefiore principal investigator for a number NIH-funded and sponsor-initiated trials in this field and is an active member of the AIDS Malignancy Consortium HPV working group as well as the International Anal Dysplasia Society.
