Nicole Saur, MD, FACS, FASCRS is an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the Director of Geriatric Surgery and Director of the PeRioperative Evaluation and Planning (PREP) Program at Pennsylvania Hospital.
She did her General Surgery training at Tufts Medical Center and her Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Florida.
Dr. Saur worked to establish the Geriatric Surgery and PREP programs and Pennsylvania Hospital to improve care of geriatric patients and enhance focus on patient-centered care. In addition to work locally, she is the chair of the Geriatric Surgery Special Interest Group at ASCRS and the Vice-Chair of the Surgical ad-hoc Committee at the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG). She partipated in the international, multi-center The Geriatric Oncology Surgical Assessment and Functional rEcovery after Surgery (GOSAFE) study evaluating the effects of major cancer surgery on functional recovery and quality of life in older patients.
Her interest in improving care with multidisciplinary collaboration extends beyond her work in geriatrc surgery. She leads the Colorectal Disease Team in the Abramson Cancer Center and the Colon and Rectal Surgery Tumor Board. Additionally, she leads the multi-specialty quality initiatives as the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Champion for Pennsylvania Hospital. Dr. Saur is also a co-founder of the Penn Women's FIRST (Fully-integrated Rectovaginal Symptoms Team) clinic, a multispecialy collaborative clinic with colorectal surgery, uro/gynecology, and gastroenterology.
