Born in Colombia, where he completed medical school in 1997 and General Surgery residency in 2003. After immigrating to Canada He repeated his residency at The University of Ottawa in 2010, followed by a fellowship at Western University in London, Ontario. Dr Caycedo completed a masters in clinical research through the University of Liverpool in 2017, also recently completed the Surgical Leadership program of Harvard Medical School.
Dr Caycedo developed a colorectal surgery service from scratch in Sudbury, Northern Ontario, where one did not exist. In this position he stay for 9 years before moving to Queen's Unievrsity in Kingston (Ontario). While in Sudbury Dr Caycedo introduced the TAMIS proceduure to Canada and pioneered taTME, becoming a leading expert on these procedures. He has published on taTME and TAMIS extensively, being the only Canadian surgeon contributing to the COLOR III trial. In 2023 he was appointed as System Chief for Orlando Health.
His career has focused mainly on rectal cancer surgery and MIS approaches, he has been able to master laparoscopy, taTME and robotic surgery. Dr Caycedo has a strong interest in the environment and the impact of surgical activity on it.
