John J. Newland, MD, MS is currently a PGY3 resident at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was born and raised in the Philadelphia suburbs, and later attended college at the University of Vermont, majoring in civil engineering. After graduating from college, he completed a 1-year post-baccalaureate progam at Thomas Jefferson University of Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The following year, he worked as a research assistant at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and ultimately matriculated to the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. He discovered a passion for surgery and matched into surgical residency the University of Maryland Medical Center. During his research years, he earned his master of science in clinical of research and epidemiology while on the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center's NIH T32 Cancer Biology training grant.
