Cihangir Akyol was born in Yozgat in 1976. After graduating from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 2002, he completed his residency training in General Surgery at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine between 2003 and 2008. From 2010 to 2014, he worked as a General Surgeon at the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine. In 2014, he was awarded a scholarship by the Turkish Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery for overseas education, leading him to conduct research on minimally invasive surgery for inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer at the Cleveland Clinic Digestive Disease Institute Colorectal Surgery Department. In 2014, he was appointed as an Associate Professor, and in 2016, he obtained the FEBS-Coloproctology title by passing the European Board of Surgery Qualification Exam. In 2017, he was granted the FASCRS title by the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. In 2022, he became a Professor at the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Department of General Surgery. He has held various positions such as Chairman of the Turkish Surgical Association Examination Commission, Secretary of the Turkish Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery Qualification Board, Member of the Education Committee of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP), and Member of the EBSQ-Coloproctology Examination Commission. Dr. Akyol has organized numerous training workshops in the field of colorectal surgery and continues to work as an instructor in many national and international workshops on minimally invasive surgery, cadaver dissections, and endoluminal surgery. He has authored numerous scientific papers published in both national and international journals and serves as a reviewer for many national and international scientific journals. His main areas of interest include colorectal cancer, cancer biology, inflammatory bowel disease, minimally invasive surgery, surgical anatomy, and surgical education.
