Robert Tessler, MD, MPH is a Colon and Rectal Surgeon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and VA Pittsburgh Health System and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He conducts public health and health services research around trauma-informed care for colorectal surgery patients and the implications for health equity and health disparities. He is the Director of the Health Equity in Surgery Pathway for the UPMC General Surgery Residency Program. He completed medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by general surgery residency at UCSF-East Bay and UPMC. He completed a T32 Research fellowship at the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center in Seattle, Washington, and a Masters of Public Health with a focus on epidemiology and global health at the University of Washington School of Public Health. He completed Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at University of Minnesota in 2022 and joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in September 2022.
