Dr. Matthew Kalady is a Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. He serves as the Director of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery and also holds the John L. Marakas Nationwide Insurance Enterprise Foundation Chair in Cancer Research. He is the Director of the Ohio State Colorectal Cancer Center and also the Medical Director of the Clinical Cancer Genetics Program. Dr. Kalady graduated cum laude from Harvard College and received his medical doctorate from Duke University. He completed his general surgery training at Duke University Medical Center and subsequently completed a colorectal surgery fellowship at Cleveland Clinic, where he remained as faculty for 14 years. There he served as the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Colorectal Surgery; the Director of the Comprehensive Colorectal Cancer Program; and the Director of the Sanford R. Weiss, MD, Center for Hereditary Colorectal Neoplasia. He holds several prominent national positions including a seat on American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, and he is a Trustee for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery Research Foundation. He is on the editorial boards for Annals of Surgery, Diseases of the Colon and Rectum, and the British Journal of Surgery. Dr. Kalady is an international expert in colorectal cancer and hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes. He is a past President of the International Society of Gastrointestinal Hereditary Tumors, and a past President of the Collaborative Group of the Americas for Inherited Gastrointestinal Cancer. He is an NIH/NCI-funded basic science researcher focusing on colorectal cancer genetics and has published more than 250 peer-reviewed articles. His main clinical interests are colorectal cancer, hereditary syndromes, and minimally invasive surgery, and has consistently been named a Castle Connolly and US News and World Report Top Doctor.
