Lisa A. Coleman, DO, FACS, FASCRS, is a fellowship-trained, board certified colon and rectal surgeon practicing in Newport News, VA at the TPMG Center for Colorectal Surgery. Dr. Coleman has a special interest in the prevention and detection of colorectal cancer, and offers diagnosis and treatment of a variety of colon and rectal conditions.
Dr. Coleman earned her medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. She completed General Surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, as well as a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery through St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York.
Dr. Coleman joined the U.S. Army in 1998 and served our country as a Lieutenant Colonel until December 2016. During her time with the Army, she served as Chief Surgeon of the 758th Forward Surgical Team at Forward Operating Base Lagman during Operation Enduring Freedom VII from 2009 to 2010. She was also Chief Surgeon of the Mobile Surgical Team during Joint Task Force Bravo at Soto Cano Air Base in 2011.
Prior to joining TPMG and opening the Center for Colorectal Surgery, Dr. Coleman served as Chief of Colorectal Surgery and Endoscopy at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. In addition to this role, she was an assistant professor and clinical instructor for the General Surgery residency program.
Dr. Coleman is a recipient of the Bronze Star, in addition to numerous awards and medals throughout her military career. She is also board certified in General Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and a member of the Association of Women Surgeons.
Dr. Coleman has also been recognized as a Top Doc for consecutive years, as voted for by her peers in the Hampton Roads area.
