Emina Huang, M.D., is a Professor and Distinguished Chair in Surgical Research in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in colon cancer screening, colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and anorectal disease.
Dr. Huang earned her medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in general surgery at The Ohio State University and gained advanced training through a colorectal surgery fellowship at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to her clinical training, Dr. Huang earned a master’s degree in business administration from the Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of Management.
Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021.
Dr. Huang serves as Executive Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern. She oversees intramural- and extramural-funded research that spans the clinical, health services, and basic and translational science domains. As a faculty member in the Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery, Dr. Huang provides cutting-edge colorectal care at Parkland Health.
She is a nationally and internationally renowned surgical scientist. Her research findings in colorectal cancer genesis have been published in journals such as Nature Communications and Nature Biotechnology, and she has had consistent National Institutes of Health funding for her research over the past two decades. A prolific author and presenter, she also holds two patents and has contributed to seven books.
