Vanessa A. Hortian, DO, MS, LAc is the Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellow at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, where she offers comprehensive, patient-centered care. She has always prioritized education, evidenced by a BA in Psychology as a Henry Rutgers Scholar from Rutgers University, Valedictorian with an MS in Acupuncture from Swedish Institute, graduating at the top of her DO class from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completing UPMC Harrisburg’s General Surgery Residency as Chief Resident.
Career awards include induction into the Sigma Sigma Phi National Honorary Osteopathic Fraternity, UPMC Above and Beyond Award, Penn State College of Medicine Excellence in Teaching Award, Excellence in Public Health Award from the US Public Health Service, Physician Professional Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General of the US, and the Women in Global Health Scholarship. Education and service have been at the forefront throughout Dr. Hortian’s career. Her service efforts have yielded the creation of acupuncture clinics for underserved populations, and providing care during multiple international medical and surgical missions in the Dominican Republic and Honduras.
Her research interests include robotic colorectal surgery, surgical ergonomics, optimizing medical and surgical education and simulation, surgical coaching and performance enhancement, and surgeon wellness. She holds one of the rare Osteopathic Physician Acupuncturist licenses in Pennsylvania, and also maintains her national certification in Acupuncture. She is fluent in Spanish, and in her leisure time enjoys the outdoors, yoga, Latin dancing, travel, and visiting her family in New Jersey.
