Lauren McGuire, MD is a general surgery resident at University of Utah. She has completed 3 years of general surgery training and is currently in her research/professional development years. She completed a Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship during her first professional development year at University of Utah. She is now completing her second professional development year and is doing research projects focused on the utilization of palliative care in trauma patients, the meaning of surgical recovery for elderly patients after major abdominal surgery, and the needs of rural surgical oncology patients. She hopes to have both dedicated surgical and palliative care practices with a focus on shared decision making with surgical patients and improving utilization of Palliative Care in surgery.
