Dr. Hester is originally from the Hudson Valley in NY and currently resides in Danbury, Connecticut where she is a third-year surgery resident. She became interested in colorectal surgery during medical school, and her love for the field has only continued to grow throughout her time in residency. She recently completed her research year at Memorial Sloan Kettering in the Colorectal Surgical Oncology department where Dr. Garrett Nash served as her mentor. Outside of the OR, she has held multiple leadership roles. In medical school, she was involved with the Student National Medical Association ( SNMA) where she held multiple roles including the Development Coordinator for the Future Leadership Program, Co-Chairperson for the National Community Service Committee, a member of the Board of Directors, and one of the inaugural Leadership Exploration and Development Initiative (L.E.A.D.) Co-Fellow. During residency, she has served as the director of Social Media engagement and Director of resident wellness for her program. She is a proud Ross alum, graduating with highest honors, and also served as Peer Tutor and Student Ambassador while on campus. She currently serves as a mentor for multiple medical students and it is her passion to see underrepresented minorities and IMGs thrive in medical and surgical training training. Her research interests include health disparities in both benign colorectal diseases like diverticulitis as well as malignancy, benign anorectal diseases, and the continued evolution of surgical colorectal education in regards to open, laparoscopic, and robotic approaches.
