Dr. Mongiu is a board-certified general and colorectal surgeon at Yale University in Connecticut. She received her MD & PhD (in Cell & Molecular Biology) from Northwestern University. She went on to complete her general surgery training at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, and her fellowship in Colon & Rectal Surgery at the University of Louisville. Her clinical interests span the breadth of benign and malignant colon, rectal, pelvic and anal surgery. Her research interests focus on improving quality of life outcomes in patients with rectal cancer following treatment via pelvic pre-habilitation and identification of genomic biomarkers predicting excess chemotherapeutic toxicities. She also has a vested interest in legislative advocacy and the economics of surgical practice, and is a member of the ACS Health Policy Advisory Council and ASCRS Healthcare Economics Committee. She additionally represents ASCRS to the AMA House of Delegates.
