Purpose/Background: Continent Ileostomy (CI) remains an option for appropriately selected patients seeking an alternative to conventional ileostomy and may improve quality of life after proctocolectomy. We sought evaluate the role of the CI by patient reported outcomes and quality of life assessment.Methods/Interventions: Patients were identified from the Quality Life Association (QLA), a non-profit worldwide association organized to meet the needs of continent ostomates. Participants who had undergone CI creation consented to participate by completing the survey. Demographic variables, pouch survival/revisional data, and quality of life measures were assessed via questionnaires using the Cleveland Global Quality of Life (CGQL) and Short Form 36 (SF-36) health surveys.Results/Outcomes: We surveyed 50 patients at the QLA meeting who had undergone CI surgery. 48 (96%) completed the survey. More patients were female (63%), median age was 67 years, and median distance traveled for CI care was 375 miles. 100% of respondents had a CI in place with a median pouch survival of 29 years. The most common pathologic reason for creation was ulcerative colitis (79%) followed by cancer (4%), Crohn’s disease (4%), FAP (4%), and motility (3%). Thirty-one (64.5%) respondents had undergone revisional surgery with a median of 7(1-35) years from pouch creation until first revision. Of those revisions, 23(48%) underwent major operations and 16(33%) underwent minor operations. Patients underwent a median of 5 total revisions and 1 major revision. Favorable scores on CGQL and SF-36 reported in Table 1 and 2 respectively. 100% patients would undergo CI creation again. 98% would recommend CI to friends/family.Conclusion/

Discussion: CI surgery provides durable pouch survival in motivated patients aware of the likelihood of revisional operations who desire improved quality of life."Table 1. CGQL Score
