Purpose/Background: We are describing our experience with routine use of ICG during colectomy emergent and elective for different indications including (tumor, perforation, and complicated diverticular disease).Methods/Interventions: This study includes a case series of 68 patients who underwent colectomy for various pathologies. ICG dye was utilized for the identification of the ureters. Before starting the colectomy, cystoscopy was performed with bilateral ureter tip stenting and injection of 5mg ICG diluted in 10mL of normal saline.Results/Outcomes: There were 38 (55.8%) females and 30 (44.2%) males with an average age of 59. Diverticulitis was the most common indication of surgery in 47 (69.1%) patients. Other indications included 2 cases of colon cancer, 4 reversals of Hartmann’s procedure, 2 proctectomies, 1 sigmoid volvulus, 1 right colectomy for a benign inflammatory tumor, and 1 abdominoperineal resection.

The average operative time was 201.12 minutes and the average length of stay (LOS) was 8.1 days. Three patients suffered from urinary retention, 10 patients had hematuria, and 4 patients had UTI. The average harvest of lymph nodes in colon cancer cases was 15.6.Conclusion/

Discussion: ICG dye used for ureteral identification during colectomy is safe for routine use by colorectal and general surgeons. Our case series demonstrates how useful this adjunct is when used for colorectal procedures.
